Promoting a Campus of Covenant Belonging
Every two years, the Equal Opportunity Manager provides essential training to all BYU departments focused on fostering a community of covenant belonging. This training aligns with President Reese's vision of Covenant Belonging at BYU, where every individual contributes to creating an environment that is inspiring, comfortable, productive, and safe. As we strive to be true to our covenants and create genuine belonging, we must also ensure compliance with federal law and university policy regarding appropriate workplace conduct.
The presentation addresses inappropriate gender-based behavior and unlawful discrimination, empowering employees with knowledge of both their responsibilities and available resources. The training helps departments understand how to maintain an environment where all can thrive while upholding our institutional commitments. Our goal is to ensure every employee in the department—including full-time/part-time faculty and staff—receives training on their responsibilities regarding federal law and university policy within the context of our covenant community.
The Equal Opportunity Assistant coordinates with individual departments to schedule these trainings every couple of years. Departments are welcome to proactively request training at any time if they feel it would benefit their team in fostering a community of covenant belonging.
