About

Mindfulness is increasingly recognized as an integral component of overall well-being. Multiple studies reveal that learning mindfulness and meditation skills have a positive impact on physical and emotional health, and mindfulness is often a great way to cope with depression and anxiety symptoms.

These training courses will be led by Mike Johnson from the BYU Center for Teaching and Learning, who earned his Mindfulness teaching certification in 2023. Each course teaches 8 mindfulness techniques over five 60-minute classes. There is typically one course offered per semester.

"I loved practicing the different techniques, I loved the time of day it was scheduled so we could just go home after!"

    -Michelle, BYU Library

"I liked learning more about meditation and mindfulness and the instructor did a good job giving us an overview in the time he had."

    -Heather, Physics & Astronomy

"Mike Johnson brought such heart and thoughtfulness to the course. You could really tell he’d put a lot of time and care into preparing it, and his warm, friendly presence made a big difference. He was genuinely engaging with everyone, walking around the room, taking time to connect with us individually, and discussing the mindful techniques he was teaching in a way that felt personal and approachable.

"The experience was both meaningful and memorable. Here are a few things I especially appreciated about his class: 1. It was clear Mike had invested a lot of time and care into the course. 2. The meaningful quotes; ... they added depth and inspiration. 3. Mike made the class feel welcoming and interactive by connecting with each of us and discussing the techniques in a personal way."
