Medical Maternity Leave

Female full-time administrative and staff employees receive six weeks of paid maternity leave following childbirth. Maternity leave begins on the day the child is born and ends six calendar weeks later. A holiday that falls within the maternity leave period will not extend the leave. Eligible employees may also use the leave in conjunction with parental leave and Family Medical Leave (see FMLA). Employees applying for maternity leave must complete the Medical Maternity and/or Parental Leave request form (see Request for Medical Maternity Leave & Parental Leave). The form must be reviewed with and signed by the supervisor and then submitted to the Leaves Office at leavesoffice@byu.edu or D-240 ASB at least 30 days before the due date of the baby.

Parental Leave

Full-time administrative and staff employees may receive six weeks of paid parental leave for the birth or placement for adoption of a child. Employees may use parental leave at any time within the first twelve months following the birth or placement. Parental leave must be used prior to taking vacation days in conjunction with the leave. A holiday that falls within the parental leave period will not extend the leave. Eligible employees may also use the leave in conjunction with maternity leave and Family Medical Leave (see FMLA). Employees applying for parental leave only must complete the Parental Leave request form (see Request for Parental Leave). The form must be reviewed with and signed by the supervisor and then submitted to the Leaves Office: leavesoffice@byu.edu or D-240 ASB at least 30 days before the date the employee intends to take the leave.

Family and Medical Leave will run concurrently with maternity and or parental leave when employees qualify (see FMLA).
