International Student Over-Hour Restrictions

International students are advised to only work no more than 19 hours and 50 minutes per work week. This should reduce a large number of minor over-hour violations.

As international students with a F1 or J1 Visa, the focus should be on education, NOT work. We understand international student circumstances but it is ILLEGAL to work over 20 hours a week.

If that happens, the student's Visa and right to work will be revoked, and will possibly have to leave the U.S.

Unless it is a specified HOLIDAY in the BYU CALENDAR, do NOT work over 20 hours a week.
