Ecclesiastical Clearance Office

The Ecclesiastical Clearance Office (ECO) performs functions related to new and continued employment eligibility to work at BYU.  The ECO is responsible for obtaining ecclesiastical clearances for specified applicants prior to an offer of employment at BYU.  This office also verifies continued employment eligibility by contacting employees' ecclesiastical leaders on a regular basis.

It is a condition of employment that all employees act in accordance with university policies and the Church Educational System Honor Code, including the Dress and Grooming Standards, and refrain from behavior or expression that seriously and adversely affects the university mission or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (Visit honorcode.byu.edu for a copy of the Church Educational System Honor Code.)  LDS employees also accept, as a condition of employment, the standards of conduct consistent with qualifying for temple privileges.  All employees are expected to be role models of a life that combines spiritual values and personal integrity, and to conduct their work in a professional manner consistent with the values espoused by the university and the Church.

For information regarding clearances for new Staff and Administrative employees, please contact Staff Employment (801-422-3563).

Please Note: The ECO does not handle ecclesiastical endorsements for students.  For questions regarding new student endorsements, please contact Admissions (801-422-5000).  For questions regarding continuing student endorsements, please contact the Honor Code Office (801-422-2847).
